The Test Of Time & Evolution Of Communication On Last Night’s HOWL

As always it was such a pleasure to host last night’s HOWL show on CIUT 89.5FM, and the two guests I had on wrote works that talked about connectivity time, and how things like how we communicate can change over time. I welcomed author Carole Giangrande who talked about her novel “All That Is Solid Melts Into Air” (Inanna Publications), and poet Domenico Capilongo who talked about his new poetry book “Send” (Guernica Editions).
Carol Giangrande – All That Is Solid Melts Into Air (Guernica Editions)

Inanna Publications over the years has sent HOWL some really amazing authors and Carol Giangrande added to that armament last night. Her book “All That Is Solid Melts Into Air” tells the story of a of a distant relationship, with the backdrop and in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Carole talked about what it was like to revisit those events and the challenge that it posed to build a story around that as it has been in so many stories. she also talked about the theme of time which is extremely prevalent throughout the story, as well as her writing process, and the importance of meticulous editing in novel writing. She did treat us to a short reading from her book, and was such a pleasure to have in studio.

Domenico Capilongo – “Send” (Guernica Editions)

Domenico brought his charisma and enthusiasm into the CIUT 89.5FM studios, and he also brought a prop – a rotary phone accentuating the poetic commentary of his latest poetry book “Send” from Guernica Editions. I lovingly called Domenico’s book a charismatic kind of cynicism, as the poems contained in the latest collection take a rather intricate and observational look at how we used to communicate now versus how we communicated before. Domenico dropped a couple of poems from the book as well as a sound poems, and if you are into sound poetry, Domenico always delivers.
